Tickets Going Fast For Kobe Bryant Gym Dedication
LOWER MERION, PA (CBS) - Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant will be in the area next week when Lower Merion school officials dedicate the new gym at Lower Merion High School in his honor. Tickets for the event are going fast.
Bryant has a history of supporting his alma mater which includes a donation of over $400,000 earlier this year. The school board voted to rename the gym after Bryant and the dedication will take place on Thursday, December 16th.
District spokesman Doug Young said more than a thousand people are expected to fill the gym. "We'll be bringing back his coaches and former teammates and a number of special guests to help mark that evening and a number of student performances. It will have a very local, very grassroots feel. It should be a lot of fun," said Young.
Bryant led the Lower Merion team to the state championship in 1996. Tickets for the event can be found on the district's website. The proceeds from the dedication will benefit the Lower Merion Education Foundation, a non-profit that was set up four years ago to provide new funding for the district.
