Three Local College Standouts Headed to Field Hockey All-Star Game

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One of the highest honors for college field hockey players is to be selected to play in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior Game -- being played this year, on Saturday, at the University of Louisville.  Three local standouts have been tabbed to take part: Temple senior forward Bridget Settles, Delaware senior goalie Noelle Diana, and Drexel senior back Sofia Sanguinetti.

Thirty-eight players from across the country were selected for the game.  The team will face off against the US Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four, 25-minute sessions.

Settles led the Temple Owls with 20 goals this season, and was named the A-10 Offensive Player of the Year.   She says she is looking forward to taking part in this game.

"I'm pretty excited about being able to play against the national team because they've been doing really well this year," she tells KYW Newsradio.  "They just got qualified to go to London for the Olympics, and I know they are an amazing team and I can learn a lot from them."

Diana finished her Delaware career with seven shutouts in net, and she says this should be a very special experience.

"I think putting on my pads for that one last time, it's going to be nice to kind of go out knowing that is my last game.  And also, I've played with some of these girls at the high school level when we were all on national teams.  So we all kind of split up into our college teams and now coming back together and playing on the same field again is, I think, going to be a good experience."

Sanguinetti led Drexel in defensive saves and says she was excited when she got word she was chosen to take part.

"It was really exciting, I don't know how to explain it.  Four years of work, it's a lot to be recognized for and I just think it's an award that basically recognizes all the team's work, because no senior can be recognized if the team doesn't do well."
