Three in a Row for Inception
The hearty reception for Inception continues.
KYW's Bill Wine reports that the Leonardo Di Caprio-starring thriller, Inception, made it three in a row, fighting off the new competition to finish first at the box office for a third straight weekend by earning an estimated $27-million.
Second place went to Dinner for Schmucks, the debuting comedy with Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, which took in a respectable $23-million in its debut.
Salt, the holdover action thriller with Angelina Jolie, took third with $19-million, while the animated holdover, Despicable Me, was fourth with $15-million.
The weekend's two other new mainstream releases also placed in the top ten:
The kidflick, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, finished fifth with over $12-million.
And Charlie St. Cloud, the drama with Zac Efron, was right behind it with $12-million, good for sixth.
Overall, with six titles over the $10-million mark, industry-wide weekend totals were slightly ahead of last year's pace.
