Thousands Packed Penn's Landing For Annual Roots Picnic
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The 9th annual Roots Picnic took over Penn's Landing Saturday night, and this year's show proved to be just as big a hit as in year's past.
With a stacked line up of bands and DJs, this year's picnic had a little something for everyone.
"I tell ya man, it's a great multi-cultural gathering of a bunch of people that love music and beautiful people. Beautiful ladies all over the place," one concert goer told KYW Newsradio.
And some of those ladies came from far away just to see some of their favorite acts.
"So I came here all the way from Atlanta, Georgia just to see Leon Bridges....the best show of my entire life," the distant traveler said.
With 24-different bands and DJs rotating between 3-different stages, there was never a dull moment for the crowd.
"The picnic is the greatest thing ever, you know. Swizz Beatz was out here, Future was out here. They got all the top songs and everything, you know. It's really going down. If you didn't come out here, you really missed out," another man said.
One of the biggest surprises of the day was when Will Smith, one of Philly's own took the stage with his daughter to perform a certain 'Summertime' classic.
