Thousands Head To NYC For 10th Anniversary Of 9/11
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Thousands of visitors flocked to ground zero in lower Manhattan for the tenth anniversary of 9/11.
The ceremony was open only to the families of the victims of 9/11, but thousands of people went just to get close.
Robert Dodds of the Poconos was only in seventh grade when the towers fell, but he says those events led directly to his joining the army. His plans to be here for the 10th anniversary actually started two years ago.
"My friend and I came back in 2009 before we deployed, and we decided that from then on we would make it a yearly thing. We couldn't do it last year because she was still deployed and I was, I had gotten wounded. I was at Walter Reed, so we missed out on doing it last year. Any chance we can get, we're going to come here to the memorial."
The crowd included other service members and many uniformed firefighters and police officers who attended to stand in solidarity with the fallen.
