Thousands Expected To Donate At Philadelphia Phillies Blood Drive

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - One of the largest annual Red Cross blood drives in the region is taking place Saturday in South Philadelphia.
It's the 8th Annual Philadelphia Phillies Blood Drive. Nearly 2,000 people are expected to donate at Citizens Bank Park from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. And this year, it's a milestone according to Red Cross spokesman Anthony Tornetta.
"One of our donors will be the 10,000th Philadelphia Phillies American Red Cross blood donor during the course of the eight-year partnership," he said.
This blood drive is coming as the Red Cross is in desperate need of donations.
"We've seen the numbers hit record lows for us through the summer. So, now is the time to donate. So, we're encouraging you to please get out, please call us, please schedule a blood donation appointment," Tornetta said.
Fans donating at the ballpark get a Carlos Ruiz, "Chooch" t-shirt and the World Series trophy will be on display for pictures.
