This Week: Jay Z's Tidal Wave & Daily Show Backlash

This week, a rap mogul goes to war with Spotify while a new late-night talk show host faces some Twitter backlash.

1. Tidal Wave!

Rapper Jay-Z is may have done the impossible: bringing all of music's royalty together in the same place, at the same time, for the same cause. The last time someone did that was Charlie Chaplin. The rapper's new streaming music service Tidal was announced this week as a direct competitor to Spotify, and he brought out a slew of famous names to help promote it.

From Rihanna and Alicia Keys to Madonna and Beyonce, artists flooded Instagram with promotional materials for the service while also attending the press conference for the service that will feature their music. Some have even brought up those crazy Illuminati claims again, and Madonna couldn't be happier.

Jay Z says he wants to give power back to the artists and fans, using Tidal to ensure that those who create are also those in control. It's hard to say whether this will work out in the long run, but that $9.99 or $19.99 price tag on the service isn't looking so appealing.

2. Noah Backlash

Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" has found its new host in South African comedian Trevor Noah who will take over the show after current host Jon Stewart leaves the post.

While Noah seems to be a fan favorite, others aren't too happy with his tweets. Correction: his past tweets.

Many believe that tweets from his past have targeted both women and Jews, something Noah himself has spoken out about. Everyone's entitled to their decision, but getting to know him could shed a different light on the future host.

3. Lyme Disease

The symptoms associated with Lyme disease are enough to make anyone feel as though they're dying, including famous people.  Avril Lavigne should know after telling People magazine that she thought she was dying before finding out she had the disease.

Back in December the rocker sent a mysterious message to fans that many immediately identified as a note on her medical condition. Lavigne has said that while she's been eating healthier and exercising more, the symptoms still have her bedridden at times.

 4. Joni Mitchell Hospitalized

Joni Mitchell fans went into a tizzy this week when they found out that the famous singer was hospitalized after being found unconscious in her home. Since then, she is reportedly doing better as fans send her nothing but positive vibes.

As last reported, Mitchell remains in intensive care.

5. Zayn Aftermath

The drama that has followed Zayn Malik's departure from the boy band One Direction continues to unfold this week when his first solo song "I Won't Mind," which was produced by Naughty Boy, was leaked online.

Former band mate Louis Tomlinson wasn't too please, not with the song but with the producer behind it. Naughty Boy retweeted a post that said Zayn made the right choice in leaving the bad to rise and become a solo artist. The retweet didn't sit too well with Tomlinson, who basically refused to bite his tongue.

It's okay Tomlinson, at least you didn't cry like Harry Styles.
