Person taken to hospital after shooting at Pennsylvania shopping center
A person was taken to the hospital after a shooting in the back parking lot of a Springfield Township shopping complex Sunday afternoon, police said.
Around 4 p.m., police said they received a call reporting a shooting at 857 Baltimore Pike in Springfield Township, which is where The Shops At Springfield Park is located.
Authorities found a person critically injured from a gunshot wound after arriving. The victim was taken to the hospital by emergency medical services.
Police haven't identified the person who was shot or provided an update on their condition. They said a gunman opened fire and fled the scene.
"Springfield Township has no tolerance for this type of violence in our community, and it is our intention to prosecute the shooter to the fullest extent of the law," Jeff Rudolph, the president of the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners, said in a statement Tuesday.
Authorities were investigating the scene in the shopping center's parking lot following the shooting Sunday. A car was seen riddled with bullets.
The Shops At Springfield Park is home to Hobby Lobby, Target, Chick-fil-A and LA Fitness, among other businesses.
Wyatt Folkmore didn't see the shooting but lives in the area near Baltimore Pike. He said he spoke to witnesses who told him they heard gunshots.
"What they were hearing was just, 'Bang, bang, bang,'" Folkmore said. "Minivan skirt off and it was done within 20 seconds even."
Lamar Roberts also lives in the area and said: "It's getting a little too close for comfort."
Police said they're actively investigating the shooting, but there's no threat to the public. They're also investigating whether the shooting was targeted.
