The Most Important Thing To Do If You Win The Powerball
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Everybody has dreams of what they would buy if they hit the big Powerball jackpot Saturday night.
But what should you do if you actually are the big winner?
The very first thing you should do, according to Pennsylvania Lottery Spokesman Gary Miller, is quite simple.
"Take a deep breath and sit down," he told KYW Newsradio.
After regaining your composure, Miller says the most important thing to do is get your John Hancock on the back of that ticket.
"It's very important to sign your ticket, because a ticket is a bearer document, meaning whoever's signature is on the back is the owner of it," he explained.
From there, Miller says you need to call the lottery headquarters in your state and they'll walk you through the process of claiming your prize, which, as you might have guessed, can't be done at the store where you bought it.
When that call is over, the best move is to find an attorney and good financial advisor to help set up your new life of luxury.
And if no one hits this record-setting jackpot, the prize could easily grow to over $1 billion for Wednesday's drawing.
