The Long Road To Syria
By Kim Glovas
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A La Salle University professor says President Obama has a rough road ahead getting approval for military action in Syria.
Dr. Michael Boyle is assistant professor of political science at La Salle.
He says the American people have already had a bad experience with one president who led them into war in Iraq years ago, and Boyle says President Obama's push for action in Syria now is not getting a warm welcome.
"He faces a real uphill battle in the House, and I think it's very likely that he doesn't get the bill passed in the house. The momentum has turned against the White House, they haven't been successful in making their case very clear, you also have a lot of other reasons for the delay, in particular the UN report is gonna happen later this week, so it's likely that a lot of House Republicans will seize upon that and just kind of read the mood of the country and say that it isn't worth it at this time," Boyle says.
Boyle also says there are arguments the chemical weapons strike could have come from the rebels, or that it could have been an accidental strike by the Syrian military.
He says until it's clear what intelligence the US has, all of this is just muddying the waters.
