A 'Grey' Weekend At The Movies
By Bill Wine
On a gray January weekend at multiplexes, The Grey led the way.
The survival thriller, The Grey, starring Liam Neeson, earned an estimated $20-million on its debut weekend, enough to gain it a first-place finish.
Second place was claimed by last weekend's leader -- the supernatural thriller, Underworld: Awakening -- which totaled just over $12-million.
One for the Money, the debuting comedy with Katherine Heigl, was third with just under $12-million,
while the holdover Red Tails finished fourth with $10-million.
The weekend's other new release -- the suspense thriller, Man on a Ledge -- debuted with $8-million, good a for a fifth-place finish.
Overall, industry-wide totals were slightly above those on the counterpart weekend last year.
