The Latest On Hurricane Irene (Saturday)
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Hurricane Irene made landfall this morning near Cape Lookout in North Carolina. It is still a Cat 1 storm as it moves up the coast. Heavy rain in Delaware before 10:30 and that is going to be increasing and moving north.
The storm will parallel the coast, about 30 miles or so from the coast line.
I'm calling this "everybody's storm" as the impacts from this huge storm will be felt far inland.
Expect a half a foot of rain inland and close to a foot of rain near the shore (sounds like snow totals doesn't it!).
The worst will be coming tonight right through tomorrow morning and earlier afternoon, depending on where you are (obviously it moves to the north so the south will clear first ... only fair since they got it first!)
Flooding expected inland with creeks, streams and rivers stuffed with water from earlier rains.
If you have to evacuate, do so with your pets. Pet-friendly shelters are Lincoln HS, Bartram HS, and Roxborough HS in Philadelphia and Cheltenham HS in Wyncote and Pottstown Senior High School in Montgomery County.
