PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It is said very often, but worth remembering. For an alcohol or drug abuser, admitting you have a problem with drugs or alcohol is the first step toward getting help.
It is also worth remembering that in most cases, quitting drugs or alcohol isn't something you can do on your own. But how do you know if you might be an addict? The first clue is if you have it in the back of your mind.
Ask yourself these questions: do you crave the drug or feel like you can't control your cravings? Do you use prescription drugs without your doctor's consent? Do you continue to use drugs or alcohol even though they have caused problems at school, home, work or with the law? Has using drugs or alcohol hurt your relationships with friends or family?
These are just some of the questions and only you truly know if it is time to reach out for help.
