The Common Sense Diet
By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - I am often asked about common sense steps to help us eat the healthiest diets.
We know that a diet high in saturated and trans fats can lead to unhealthy cholesterol levels.
Another key step is to limit foods and beverages with added sugars. Many of these foods are high in calories, but low in nutrients. Consuming a lot of them can lead to weight gain.
Choose a variety of fruits and vegetables. Other healthy choices include whole grains, fish, skinless poultry, beans, nuts and low-fat or fat-free milk and dairy products. These foods give your body the nutrients and energy it needs.
Once again it seems like common sense but how many of us don't do this?
