By Spike Eskin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The NCAA's top March Madness moment ever didn't involve a Philadelphia team, but it did happen here.
The NCAA announced Friday that the top March Madness moment ever is Christian Laettner's last second shot that gave Duke a shocking win over Kentucky in the 1992 Regional Final in Philadelphia.
The NCAA also announced the top 15 March Madness players ever: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Bill Bradley, Patrick Ewing, Grant Hill, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Jerry Lucas, Danny Manning, Hakeem Olajuwon, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Bill Walton and Jerry West.
The 1976 Indiana Hoosiers were voted the All-Time Madness team.
"We had such a tremendous response from the fans. The players, team and moment personify greatness at the collegiate level and culminate 75 Years of March Madness," Dan Gavitt, NCAA vice president of men's basketball championships said in a press release. "We look forward to honoring these players, team and moment, with the fans, during the national semifinals."
NCAA basketball experts participating in the All-Time March Madness Player voting included members of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, the College Sports Information Directors of America, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, current and former members of the Division I Men's Basketball Committee, the Final Four Coaches Club (coaches who previous led their teams to the Final Four) and NCAA media partners.
