'The Art Of Golf'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- For golf fans in town for the U.S. Open at Merion, there's an exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for you.
"The Art of Golf" is a 20 piece exhibit that curator Jennifer Thompson says is built around Scottish Painter Charles Lees' work "The Golfers."
"Perhaps, today, [it is] the most celebrated painting of golf in the world. It's one that's widely reproduced and much loved by golfers and art historians as well," Thompson says.
The painting portrays 54 people, some famous golfers of their day, gathered for a match in the mid 1850s at The Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.
"The artist also has this tremendous ability to capture sort of nuances of personality and character. The clothing is wonderfully represented. There are sort of paisley gowns, top hats…wonderful sort of red golfing coats," she adds.
The exhibit runs until July 7th.
