Testimony In Abortion Doctor Murder Case Turns To Death Of Adult Woman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Testimony in the murder trial of abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell has now turned to the death of an alleged adult victim, with expert testimony from an anesthesiologist.
Doctor Gosnell is charged with third degree murder in the death. He's also charged with seven counts of first degree murder of babies that the prosecution alleges were born alive and then murdered. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecution alleges 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar died as a result of an overdose of medication before and during an abortion procedure. And an anesthesiology professor, who has reviewed the clinic records, has testified Mongar was given too much medication -- it exceeded what would be considered safe for a woman of her size and weight. She was 5'1" and weighed 110 pounds.
Doctor Andrew Herlich of the University of Pittsburgh, has also indicated, based on prosecution evidence, Mongar's care was not properly monitored or managed.
But during cross-examination, Dr Andrew Herlich acknowledged he wasn't there, he doesn't know what happened. The jury will be hearing from multiple employees of the Women's Medical Society clinic. Trial resumes Monday.
