Tennessee State Uses Late Run To Beat Drexel 76-66
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kellen Thornton scored 20 points and Tennessee State used a 7-0 run late in the second half to take a 76-66 victory from Drexel on Tuesday night in a nonconference contest.
The teams were tied 57-all with 4:03 left when the Tigers (4-5) went on the 7-0 run. Jordan Cyphers scored and was fouled on a fast break, and when he missed the layup, Michael Green grabbed the rebound and put it back up for two points. Cyphers then hit a 3 to set a seven-point advantage with just under 3 minutes left, and Drexel (2-6) never got closer than five again.
Robert Covington hit 7 of 11 shots en route to 17 points for the Tigers.
Damion Lee led Drexel with 18 points, while Daryl McCoy recorded his first double-double of the year with 10 points and 13 boards. Frantz Massenat added 15 points and seven assists.
