Temple University Researcher Studies Correlation Between More Sleep And Weight Loss
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're having a difficult time losing weight, you may need more sleep.
Research has shown that a loss of sleep is linked to a higher risk of obesity. Now Dr. Gary Foster, the director of the Center for Obesity Research and Education at Temple University, wants to find out if getting more sleep will help one lose weight.
"The hopeful outcome may be that when you teach people to get more sleep that that in fact leads to better weight loss, and that could be for a variety of different reasons. You're not watching as much television; you're not prompted by the commercials as much it could be. You're just on top of your game," said Dr. Foster.
He says during the six-month study, all participants will be on weight loss programs, with half receiving direction on ways to get more sleep.
