Temple University May Modify Future 'Spring Flings' After Off-Campus Death

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Temple University has been holding a Spring Fling celebration for decades, but this year the event turned tragic when a 19-year-old student fell from an off-campus roof party and died (see related story).
West Chester University student Ali Fausnaught died on April 17th after falling off a roof near the Temple campus.
Now, Temple University administrators are rethinking the annual event.
"We are rethinking Spring Fling because we always assess our programs," says Stephanie Ives, Temple's dean of student affairs. "We haven't made any decisions yet because I'm sure everyone understands that the future of the event is absolutely secondary to the tragedy that happened."
Ives says Spring Fling was conceived as a celebration of spring, with performances, fun and games, and non-alcoholic events. However, off campus has been another story.
Ives says there is a code of conduct for students on and off campus, and it applies at all times. But how to enforce that code, she admits, is another matter.
