Temple Joins Philly Building Boom With $1B Plan
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Temple University has joined a college-based building boom in Philadelphia that civic leaders hope will benefit the city as a whole, not just students.
A new $1.2 billion framework aims to remake Temple's urban campus and provide an economic boost to the struggling North Broad Street corridor.
The 10-year venture includes new dorms, green space and academic buildings. It is similar to long-term construction plans under way at the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University.
Alan Greenberger, deputy mayor for economic development, says the building projects at all three colleges will help attract investment from the private sector.
The schools are among the city's largest employers and collectively serve more than 85,000 students.
