Temple University Acting Proactively To Fend Off an Ebola Event

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As colleges and universities in the region continue to monitor the Ebola situation, precautions and plans continue to evolve.
Temple University says its preparedness efforts began over the summer, before the start of the semester, when students coming from the Ebola-affected countries were contacted to inform them about the disease and what to look out for should they develop any symptoms. There were no issues.
Also around that time, the university says, staff members were given information about preventive measures and health monitoring.
Temple spokesman Brandon Lausch says that now, outreach is taking place on campus to the handful of students from the affected countries, determining if they have plans to go back home on upcoming breaks.
"We just want to get an assessment of what their plans might be for the fall or winter, and those discussions will help to inform any next steps," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Lausch says the university is coordinating with the Temple Health System to be consistent in its preparations, including for training and equipment.
