Temple U. Opening A Medical School In Pittsburgh, Pa.
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) - Temple University's school of medicine is expanding to Pittsburgh.
Temple is teaming up with the West Penn Allegheny Health System to establish a new, four-year medical school campus in Pittsburgh, Pa.
"The first class will enroll in the fall of 2013," says Temple medical school dean Larry Kaiser, "so we are just now beginning to recruit some additional basic science faculty for out here at Allegheny General (Hospital), at the Singer Research Institute."
"We will begin accepting applications about a year from now," he added.
The first class will enroll 30 students, and Kaiser says the curriculum will be identical to the one in Philadelphia.
It's hoped the expansion will help alleviate a shortage of doctors in western Pennsylvania.
