Temple Students Remember Disaster In Japan With Commemorative Song

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Devastating images of towns in ruins are still reminders of last years earthquake and tsunami that hit the Northeast coast of Japan.
Sunday marks the one year anniversary.
"We should not forget," said Naoko Masuda.
Masuda is the Senior Web Director at Temple University. She is originally from Tokyo, about four hours away from the hardest hit areas. Masuda and her friend and colleague Jack Klontz Jr., a Music Technology Professor at Temple, started thinking of ways they could commemorate the one-year anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami. They decided a song would be the best way to express their deep concern for what happened a year ago. With the help of about 20 local students, staff and volunteers from Japan, Masuda and Klontz are making history through music.
"I wanted this song, not to be just, America is sending a song to Japan to encourage," said Masuda. "I wanted it to be more collaboration in two ways."
Masuda also created a video, to translate and illustrate what this song is about.
Since last year, Temple University's Japan Relief Fund has raised $20,000. That money is used to assist students in Japan who want to attend Temple University.
The anniversary video and song will be on Temple's website, on facebook, youtube and twitter.
