Temple Japan Students Relocate To Hong Kong To Avoid Radiation
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Temple University chartered a flight to Hong Kong for its students who wanted to leave its Tokyo campus. A professor with the students in Hong Kong talks about how things are going.
Temple Japan is evacuating students who wish to leave the country following concerns about the instability of a nuclear facility north of Tokyo. The university announced that the evacuation only affects American students and non-Americans with proper documentation. Kyle Cleveland is a professor at the Tokyo campus:
"We had a very long night. Students initially met at the University in downtown Tokyo. Then we took a very early morning bus and a very early morning flight into Hong Kong."
Cleveland says, evacuating students seemed calm, "The students are worried and they wouldn't be coming home, if they weren't. But, in a lot of cases they are responding to their parents concerns."
Cleveland says Temple Japan serves more than 3000 students from around the world.
Classes are scheduled to resume on March 28th.
