Temple Improves To 6-0 With 76-61 Win Over Villanova
By Harry Donahue
VILLANOVA, Pa. (CBS) - Villanova held a 36-32 over Temple at halftime but the Wildcats went the next 10:30 without a field goal. By then, the Owls had turned things around and led 50-39.
"This is another step in our progression as a team," Temple coach Fran Dunphy said. "Through the first five games, we got wins but we did not play our best basketball."
Jay Wright's team finished with 20 turnovers in the 76-61 loss.
"The way they played us, they denied our guards and left our big guys alone so it was kind of like telling our big guys, 'go ahead make a play' and that's something we prepared for but something we didn't handle well."
The Owls were led by Scootie Randall's 21 points.
"I just had to come through for our team," Randall said. "I think it's just a mindset, knowing that I've been out for a while and knowing that my team needs me for my last year. So I have to do whatever it takes to get these guys a win."
James Bell led Villanova with 15 points. Temple's Anthony Lee put in a career high 16 points.
It was Temple's first win at the Pavilion since way back in 1990 and they are 6-0 for the first time since 1987.
