Temple Women Look To Keep On Rolling Tonight At UCF
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Temple University women's basketball team is down in Orlando to run with the University of Central Florida tonight in American Athletic Conference action.
The Owls are enjoying a lot of success this season. They have won seven of their last eight and bring a 10-5 record into this game. They are alone in second place in the American with a 4-1 conference mark.
"We've been playing pretty good basketball the last couple of weeks," Temple head coach Tonya Cardoza tells KYW Newsradio. "Really focused in on the defensive side and getting out in transition and making it tough for teams to hang out with us. So definitely excited about the next couple of months and hoping that we can continue to improve and get better."
Listen to the entire interview with Temple's Tonya Cardoza:
Temple is being led by sophomore guard Alliya Butts and her 16 points a game. Junior guard Feyonda Fitzgerald is right behind her in the scoring column, averaging 15.3 points a night. Fitzgerald also leads the team with 80 assists.
The Owls will be matching up with a UCF team tonight this is 3-12 (0-4 in the American). Cardoza talks about what they bring to the table.
"They're a team that's going to get out and try to run in transition," Cardoza says. "Great athletes that look to crash the offensive boards. They have a great scorer in (junior guard Zykira) Lewis so we're definitely going to have to know where she is and try to limit her touches."
Lewis averages 15.5 points per game.
Central Florida has lost its last 11 games.
Tonight's game will tip-off at 7:00.
