Temperatures To Rebound Into The 70's, A Lovely Weekend Ahead!
By Kate Bilo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There are a few spots across the world that are known for their cloudy, cool, drizzly weather thanks to a persistent marine influence. Cities like Seattle, London, the infamous "June Gloom" of San Francisco. All these areas deal with a prevailing onshore flow, bringing lots of cloud cover and cool air in off the water. In Philadelphia and New Jersey, we don't often deal with this phenomenon thanks to a prevailing westerly flow, meaning the cool air from over the Atlantic doesn't often make it inland. But when it does, we notice it!
Today's chilly weather was brought to you by the east wind coming off the 59 degree Atlantic Ocean, and it felt more like early April than late May! But luckily for us, these east wind days are generally few and far between, and a west flow will resume tomorrow, allowing temperatures to rebound quickly into the 70's. We may see a stray thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon but otherwise, increasing amounts of sunshine.
Most importantly, the weekend! It looks downright lovely, with sunshine and highs in the upper 70's - not too hot and not too cool, just an ideal late spring weekend for us.
