PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A driver is in police custody after a hit and run on North Broad Street in Philadelphia early Friday morning.
Police say a 16-year-old boy is in extremely critical condition with head injuries after he was run down on Broad near Wallace Street.
Another 16-year-old suffered a broken leg when the red sports car smashed into them. Both were taken to Hahnemann Hospital.
The boys were part of a group riding bikes early this morning when they were hit.
The driver sped off and turned down Ridge Avenue. Chief Inspector Scott Small says that's where police pulled him over.
"Within minutes, 6th District officers found the car in the 1300 block of Ridge Avenue. Witnesses were transported to the car and they positively identified the vehicle."
The driver was taken in for a breathalyzer test and identified as Brandon Carter, 34. He was charged with two counts each of aggravated assault by vehicle, aggravated assault while driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person, DUI and other related offenses.
Police say there's a chance he was under the influence at the time of the accident.
