Teenager Shot In Darby Township Following Drug Deal Gone Wrong
DARBY Twp., Pa. (CBS) -- A teenager has been hospitalized following a shooting in Darby Township Monday afternoon.
The shooting occurred just before 3:00 p.m. on Poplar Street in an alley near West Ashland Avenue, police say.
The victim, an 18-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was immediately rushed to Crozier Hospital, in an unknown condition.
According to police, the shooter, a 16-year-old, fled the scene on foot and was later apprehended by police and SWAT team members in a nearby home.
The house was located on Madison Avenue and Beech Street, less than a quarter mile from the scene of the shooting.
Police say, marijuana was found at the scene and it's believed the incident was related to a drug deal gone wrong.
According to police, this shooting occurred around the same time several schools in the area were releasing students for the day. Police promptly place the school on lock down.
Investigators are conducting interviews with witnesses and the suspect to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
