Teen Tells Court He Saw His Father Murdered In Strawberry Mansion Shooting
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A teenager testified on Tuesday that he saw his father murdered, executed as he laid on the ground following a confrontation at Mander Playground in 33rd and Diamond Streets in June.
14-year-old Lamar Morris Taylor said he was jumped by a group of other young men, his parents found out and they returned to the playground with him. They challenged the teens to a fair fight with their son. Again, Taylor said he was jumped, and then he saw defendant Amir Jamal shoot his father, 30-year-old Nyeme Taylor. (see related story)
"He was firing at him, essentially on top of him almost, and just shooting at him to the point where he fell, and then he continues to fire shots while he is laying on the ground," said Prosecutor Mark Cipolletti.
The witness's 15-year-old sister and two younger girls at the playground, 10 and 6, were also wounded. But defense attorney Joseph Santaguida argued the identification is wrong -- that Jamal didn't do it.
"He wasn't even there. We have an alibi. We will present it at trial," said Santaguida.
