Teen Charged In Connection With Accident That Killed NJ School Superintendent

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ (CBS) -- An 18-year-old female has been charged in connection with the death of Robbinsville School Superintendent Dr. Steven Mayer.

Authorities say the teen was charged with with death by auto and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Authorities say the teen was also issued citations charging her with reckless driving, improper use of a cell phone while driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

The teen's name is being withheld because she was a juvenile at the time of the accident.

The complaint says on April 19 around 6:16 a.m., the 17-year-old driver operated a vehicle in a reckless manner, causing Mayer's death, specifically by talking on a cell phone at or about the time of impact, then leaving knowing the accident occurred.

Mayer's dog was also killed in the accident.
