Tech Expert: Time For Some Digital Spring Cleaning
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - April showers provide a great excuse to stay inside and do some spring cleaning. But it's not just your closets and cabinets that need a going-over.
Just being honest: there is a very good chance you don't have as many actual friends as your Facebook account can boast.
"You probably don't even know who half of them are," said CNET's Dan Ackerman. "Whether it's with Facebook, e-mail, Twitter, or text, you can end up overly inundated with input and unable to filter it."
That digital deluge can sop up a lot of time that often could be better spent.
So, Ackerman asks, why not relieve some of the inundation this spring with a social networking cleanse?
"Even if you do know them, there are updates that fly by every day -- perhaps that's not really the news you're interested in finding out about."
He suggests you trim the hedges by doing some de-friending of the folks for whom you can't come up with six degrees of separation. If you're worried they'll take offense, just hide their updates -- the digital equivalent of putting those parkas and sweaters in storage.
