PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Wednesday afternoon, the Flyers announced that the team is mourning the loss of former Flyer Bob Dailey. He passed away on Wednesday at the age of 63.
Dailey played for the team from 1976 to 1982.
"Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Flyers lost another great player today with the passing of former defenseman Bob Dailey after a long battle with cancer," said Flyers President Paul Holmgren in a statement. "Bob was an integral part of the 1979-80 Flyers team that had a 35-game unbeaten streak and played in the Stanley Cup Final that year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."
During his time in Philadelphia, Dailey scored 56 goals and racked up 138 assists in 304 regular season games. He played in 56 playoff games for the Flyers including the 1980 Stanley Cup Final. He ranks 5th all-time in goals, and 7th all-time in points (194) among Flyers defensemen.
Dailey made the All-Star team in 1978 and 1981. He also won the Barry Ashbee Trophy, the award given to the team's best defensemen, in 1979 and 1981.
