Tastykakes Set To Return To Phillies' Ballpark Concession Stands
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Tastykakes are making a comeback at the Phillies' ballpark this season.
Jon Silvon, a spokesman for Tasty Baking Company, says there will be a half-dozen stands set up throughout Citizens Bank Park this season.
"The products that are going to be offered to start are Butterscotch Krimpets, Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes, and Chocolate Cupcakes, and we look to expand (the product line) hopefully in the near future," Silvon told KYW Newsradio.
Once a concession stand staple at Connie Mack Stadium and Veterans Stadium, Tastykake pulled out in the mid-1980s. Silvon says freshness was always a problem.
"The issues we have are primarily around heat. As you can imagine, when your product has icing and chocolate, they have to be able to withstand the heat," he says.
Tastykake's solution to the heat? Refrigerators.
One fan loved hearing that the iconic Philadelphia treat is returning to the home team's ballpark.
"That's great for Phillies fans," he said. "The chocolate with the chocolate icing, I like."
But one female Phillies fan was skeptical.
"Everything costs too much money -- I wouldn't pay it," she said.
But as for the price of Tastykake treats at the ballpark, Silvon says that's still to be determined.
"We are working with (food service company) Aramark to make sure it's a reasonable price given the fan base and our consumers," Silvon said.
