Target Store Coming Soon To Center City
By Hadas Kuznits
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A large-scale retailer will be setting up shop smack dab in the middle of Center City Philadelphia.
A new Target store is being constructed along Chestnut Street between 11th and 12th Streets -- and that has folks who live in the area pretty excited. They say it will certainly rejuvenate the neighborhood.
"Seeing legitimate businesses would be nice," said one neighbor. "I lived right down the street for a long time and shopping was tricky."
"Well I do think it's good for big retail businesses, especially in the Center City area." said another. "You have some stores, but you really don't have any big, mainstream Targets, Walmarts, stuff like that."
John Connors, president of Brickstone Realty, says Target will be one of five large-scale retailers that will occupy the mixed use building that will also consist of luxury apartments above.
"The area between Market Street and Walnut Street between 11th and 12th (Streets) will become one of the most dynamic stretches of real estate in Center City," Connors told KYW Newsradio. "I would walk past this block and never stop; pass here on the way to something else, so it's nice to have here be a destination, as well."
The project is expected to be complete by the summer of 2016.
