Target Offers Discount After Data Breach Incident
By Ileana Diaz
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New information tonight in the Target data breach.
Potential victims of the major breach involving the retailer say they are having trouble contacting the company.
Nearly everyone who's shopped at Target recently is trying to call them. But there's a problem.
Every time we tried -- the call was disconnected.
They just didn't have the resources available quick enough," Erin Allsman of the Brownstein Group said.
And thousands of customers are experiencing the same response.
"Every organization that handles any kind of credit card payment that you're dealing with people's money, you need to be thinking about it's the worst case scenario and the worst case has hit for Target," Allsman said.
Target officials tell CBS 3 they're emailing any customers who used their debit, credit or target card between November 27th and December 15th and sent us this statement:
"To date, we are hearing very few reports of actual fraud, but are closely monitoring the situation. We want to reassure guests that they will not be held financially responsible for any credit card or debit card fraud."
"Unfortunately we're not ever really safe when we got to the store and swipe out card. That is just the reality of things," Shawn Needham of Clarifi said.
A reality that many are dealing with during the worst time possible, and one that financial experts believe could take weeks, if not months to resolve.
"Check their debt and credit card statements. If they see anything on there that appears to be suspicious, they should contact their card issuer immediately," Needham said.
Tonight, Target officials are telling CBS 3 that in response to everything that has occurred, they are giving all customers a 10 percent discount throughout this weekend.
