Tamaroa Survived 'The Perfect Storm,' Now Will Be Laid To Rest At Bottom Of Ocean
CAPE MAY, N.J. (CBS) -- It survived the "perfect storm," but will now be laid to rest at the bottom of the ocean.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced this past Tuesday that it would sink the 205 foot vessel off the coast of New Jersey and Delaware. The ship, the USCGC Tamaroa, was made famous by the book and film, 'The Perfect Storm.'
It also served in World War II, towing other boats to safety.
It will now be used to help grow a reef near Cape May Point. That's to draw large game fish and recreational fisherman to the area.
