T-Mobile Urges iPhone Customers to Abandon AT&T For Cheaper Data Plans
By Technology Editor Ian Bush
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- T-Mobile has never sold the iPhone, and it likely won't offer Apple's newest version that's expected to be announced next week.
But the wireless company still wants iPhone customers. T-Mobile thinks its price plans are a good deal for data-hungry smartphone users. For $70, you can get unlimited voice, web, and downloads with no throttling.
That's cheaper than AT&T's offering, which doesn't include unlimited data.
So, if your AT&T iPhone contract is up, T-Mobile is hoping you'll forego the iPhone 5 and instead get AT&T to unlock your current device and transfer your service.
A few catches: this won't work with iPhones from Verizon or Sprint, only AT&T. And T-Mobile is still upgrading its 4G network so, for now, you may have to deal with slower speeds than you're used to.
