Swimmer Dies After She's Caught In Jersey Shore Rip Current
LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New York woman has died after she apparently got caught in a rip current while swimming at the Jersey shore.
Long Beach Township police say the 24-year-old Port Chester woman and a male companion were knocked off their feet by a wave and then pulled out by the current around 11 a.m. Saturday.
Witnesses had started performing CPR on the woman before police arrived on scene, and emergency responders later used a defibrillator on her. She was first taken to a nearby hospital but was later flown to another hospital in Philadelphia, where she died early Sunday.
The woman's name was not released. It wasn't clear if the man with her was injured in the incident.
