Swedish App Records What Users Say While Sleep Talking

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Whether it's whispering sweet nothings, cursing a blue streak or strictly incoherent mumbling, sleep talking is somewhat common.

In fact, experts estimate that about 5% of adults and about half of all children between three and 10 talk while they sleep.

And if you fall into the small percentage of sleep-talkers, have you ever wondered – gulp – what you were saying?

Yes, you know where this is going: There's an app for that.

It's called Sleep Talk Recorder, and it's been downloaded by nearly 2 million people worldwide since it debuted back in 2010.

The app, which costs 99-cents and is available for Android and iOS devices, works by recording short snippets of sound while you're asleep. Once you wake up, you can listen to those recordings, then upload them to share with other users online. (Sidenote: Looking for some laughs? Peruse the "Funniest" section of the website.)

While user reviews praise Sleep Talk Recorder as "so much fun" and "awesome," it's not just about entertainment. According to Mashable, the Swedish company behind the app, Mad In Sweden, is working on a documentary about how it's helped some users.
