SUV Smashes Into Bensalem Home, Driver Flees
BENSALEM, Pa. (CBS) – An out-of-control SUV crashed into a Bensalem, Bucks County home early Sunday morning, then the driver fled the scene.
The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on the 2200 block of Monroe Avenue.
"I thought I heard thunder," homeowner Barret David tells Eyewitness News. "I was in my room and that was about it."
Investigators say the driver first hit the neighbor's shed, dislodging it from its foundation, before crossing the street and hitting David's home.
"I couldn't come down stairs because (the car) was parked in front of my stairwell," he said.
David's wife was sleeping downstairs, he says, recovering from an earlier hospital visit, just feet from the destruction. She's back in the hospital Sunday night, David saying the stress of the whole thing was too much:
"Her blood count was low and her pressure was low and it raised her pressure way up."
David says it is not safe for him or his family to stay inside, but is thankful nobody was seriously injured:
"We could have been dead, but by the Grace of God, we're still here. That's all that counts. That's all that counts."
Authorities are still looking for the driver of the SUV, who took off right after the crash.
