UPDATE: Lockdown Lifted At New Jersey Schools
VOORHEES, N.J. (CBS) -- Eastern High School and a private school were placed on lockdown while police investigated a suspicious vehicle found in the parking lot near the schools Wednesday.
Now, officials say the scene has been cleared and the lockdowns lifted.
Authorities say at about 7:40 a.m. officers from the Gibbsboro Police Department located a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a doctor's office on RT 561. Police say the in the back seat of the vehicle, they saw ammunition, an empty gun holder and a bag. Voorhees police responded to the scene along with the Camden County Bomb Squad and K9 units. The bomb squad investigated and rendered the vehicle safe.
As a precaution, the roadway was shut down and nearby Eastern High School and the Kellman Brown Academy were placed into a Tier 1 lockdown -- which means no one was allowed into or out of the schools. Additional officers were also assigned to the schools.
Attempts to locate the owner of the vehicle were unsuccessful and police say it was eventually towed.
Authorities ask anyone with information to contact police.
