Gas Leak Delays Start Of Classes At Middle School In Sicklerville
SICKLERVILLE, N.J. (CBS) -- A natural gas leak delayed the start of classes for students at a middle school in Camden County Monday morning.
The incident played out at the Ann Mullin Middle School on Sicklerville Road in Sicklerville, New Jersey.
According to investigators, shortly before 7 a.m., prior to the arrival of students, staff members at the school detected the smell of natural gas and called 911.
Officers and firefighters arrived at the school and determined that the odor was emanating from the school's boiler room and that the situation necessitated a response from the South Jersey Gas Company.
As a result, all arriving students were not allowed in the building and were temporarily taken to nearby Timber Creek High School where they were sheltered in the school's auditorium
At about 8:43 a.m., school officials were advised by the local Fire Marshal, in conjunction with South Jersey Gas Company, that the source of the leak had been located and rectified and the school was safe to open.
Students and faculty were transported back to the middle school and resumed normal operation by approximately 9:40 a.m.
There were no reports of any injuries.
