Suspect Who Tried To Rob Amish Couple Arrested In Delaware
HARTLY, Del. (CBS) – A suspect has been arrested in connection to a robbery that took place Kent County, Delaware.
Mark A. Carter, 45, of Smyrna, Delaware, was arrested on Sunday, July 15th after attempting to rob an Amish couple near the intersection of Holly Island and Bryants Corner Roads at about 12:20 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say that Carter pulled his car in front of the horse and buggy that the Amish couple was using, jumped out of his car with a handgun and demanded money from the couple. Carter fled the area after the couple was unable to give him any money.
The victims were able to get the registration number of the car that Carter was using and reported it to the police.
An officer saw the suspect vehicle and, after conducting a routine stop, arrested Carter. A .22 caliber handgun and two guitars, which were reported stolen during a burglary that occurred on July 11th, were found in his vehicle.
Carter has been charged with two counts of first degree attempted robbery, possession of a deadly weapon, theft of a firearm and criminal mischief among others. He has been committed to Sussex Correctional Institution.
