Cops: Northeast Philly Teen Murdered Childhood Friend Over Theft Of Playstation 3
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have charged a suspect in connection with the "brutal" and "personal" murder of a teenager in Northeast Philadelphia last week.
Malik Anderson, 18, of the 1800 block of Tomlinson Road, has been charged with murder and other related offenses in the death of 19-year-old Daquan Crump.
Crump's body was found at a construction site in 10000 block of Northeast Avenue in the Somerton section of the city at about 7 a.m. on August 19th. (See Related Story).
Philadelphia Police Homicide Captain James Clark said the murder stemmed from the theft of a video-game system.
According to Clark, Anderson and Crump planned to steal another friend's PlayStation 3 game console. Clark said Crump carried out their plan alone and cut Anderson out of the sale when he sold the unit on the street for $60.
Clark said Anderson was angered and lured Crump to the construction where the murder was carried out.
According to investigators, Crump's body was found by workers arriving for work, who then called 911.
Clark said Crump was shot once in the back of the head and nine times in the face. Clark called the murder brutal and "very, very personal."
Investigators said they found a .22 caliber automatic handgun inside Anderson's refrigerator. Anderson was arrested at his home Wednesday and Clark said he is talking with authorities.
Clark said Anderson and Crump have been friends since they were about 10 or 11-years-old.
