Suspect Turns Himself In After Escaping Police Custody In Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - Richard T. Wright turned himself in to troopers in Penny Hill, at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. He was arrested and charged with escape and theft.

Wright is in custody at the James Vaughn Correctional Center after being unable to post the $2500 bail.

Delaware State Police were searching for the 23-year-old Wilmington man who escaped police custody Saturday evening.

Police say Richard Wright fled from the parking lot of Troop 1 in Penny Hill at about 7 p.m. The suspect was being escorted to a patrol vehicle that would have taken him to the Young Correctional Center.

Wright was apprehended earlier in the evening during a traffic stop after he provided officers with a fake name, police say. A computer check revealed that Wright was wanted by the New Castle County Police Department on theft and conspiracy charges.

Still in handcuffs, Wright fled the parking lot and ran across Philadelphia Pike into Bellefonte.
