Suspect Charged With DUI Death Of Philadelphia Officer Had Blood Alcohol Level Of Two-And-A-Half Times Legal Limit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sources tell CBS 3 that lab tests now indicate the blood alcohol level of an alleged drunk driver accused of killing Officer Brian Lorenzo early Sunday morning was more than two-and-a-half times the legal limit.
Sources indicate the accused drunk driver, John Leck Jr., had a blood alcohol level of .218. A reading of .08 is required for a driver to be considered legally intoxicated.
Police claim Leck drove up the Cottman Avenue off-ramp the wrong way, heading southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95, before plowing head-on into the motorcycle operated by Officer Lorenzo, who was heading home from work.
The 23 year veteran and father of three was pronounced dead at the scene.
Leck, who is charged with murder and homicide by vehicle DUI, remains hospitalized after being held without bail at a bedside arraignment.
There will be a viewing for Officer Lorenzo Thursday evening and tomorrow morning prior to the funeral Mass.
