Suspect Caught On Tape Stealing Donation Jar For Children's Hospital
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are searching for the callous suspect who was caught on tape stealing a donation jar that was intended for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
The incident happened at about 1:25 p.m. Tuesday at the Twins Auto Body located on S. 72nd Street in Southwest Philadelphia.
According to police, the suspect initially entered the business and inquired about employment before leaving.
The video shows the suspect minutes later sneaking into the office, grabbing the donation jar and running out of the store.
The business owner John Ferrara says he was preparing to present the cash, more than $400 donated by employees, customers and friends, to the hospital, when the thief grabbed the jar and took off.
Ferrara says he chased the thief, who can be seen on surveillance tape, for several blocks but was unable to catch him.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, about 5'8" tall with a goatee and a thin build. He was wearing a light grey or white hooded sweatshirt, with a grey or black jacket, blue jeans and was riding a mountain bike.
