2 Men Stabbed In Northern Liberties, Suspect At Large
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One man is dead and another in critical condition after two separate stabbings in the city's Northern Liberties section Monday evening.
According to police, the two separate incidents occurred within blocks of each other.
At about 6 p.m., police pronounced a 56-year-old man dead in the street near the intersection of 7th and Fairmount after he suffered a knife wound to the chest.
Just blocks away, a 31-year-old man, a Temple University student from Connecticut, according to sources, was found stabbed in the abdomen and rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was listed in extremely critical condition.
Neighbors in Northern Liberties are concerned. One resident says he is especially worried by the apparent randomness of the attacks.
"You know, that's why both of us are taking the dog out, this morning, because it did sound like it could have just been someone random."
Brian McMurray, who was out walking his dog this morning, says he walked his dog past this intersection shortly before the attack last night.
McMurray says, "I was walking him, went home and the next thing I know, I looked outside and there were all the police around so it must have been two minutes after I was around."
There is no word on a motive for these attacks and the suspect remains at large. The attacker was described as a black man wearing a black cloth coat and a black knit cap. Police say he may be homeless.
